The words ‘Wakefield’ and ‘avant-garde collector’ don’t get mentioned in the same sentence very often (or at least I didn’t think they did). So I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the Guardian’s culture short about the new Hepworth Gallery.

I was pretty much blown away recently on a visit to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park – and not just by the bracing West Yorkshire wind. As a resident of nearby Wakefield, and father of two young girls, I often find myself making the short drive to YSP when I’m faced with yet another viewing of Finding Nemo. I’m never disappointed and the kids love it – plenty of space for them to roam around and explore artwork in a unique environment – and my conscience is the better for it!
The latest exhibition by Jaume Plensa is amazing, and it turns out I wasn’t the only one to appreciate it – Dizzee Rascal is another recent visitor singing its praises.
